Banks and that

I know I said I would blog about my first day, but I have been so hectically busy since starting that I haven't had time to blog about anything!  "What's new?" I hear you say!  Well better late than never.  I have now been at HSBC for almost 3 months.  This is a picture of the building I work in.  Its the only building in Canary Wharf which is occupied 100% by one company.  Its rather tall, about 42 floors I think.  I work on the 30th floor - on a sunny day there are some great views of London.  There is a full gym on the 5th floor which is better than most big gyms in London!  They also have a subsidised canteen where the food is really nice, and so much choice.  I was given a tour of the building on my induction day.  We started by watching a health and safety video and after about 5 minutes, the projector blew-up!  HEALTH & SAFETY????  We all had a good laugh about that but that poor guy doing the presentation was slightly embarrassed to say the least.  We then went on the tour.

Its all going well and I'm all settled in now, joining in the office banter etc.  My department is great to work in and I'm finding my role is very manageable.  I'm working as PA to about 3 Directors and their teams.  Canary Wharf is strange because its like a little City (or Country if you like) in itself.  Its very self-contained and you have everything there, and there's always more shops opening.  But there are people who live just across the road from their work!  Yes, must be a dream to just walk across to work but frankly I would hate it, because your life would just become all about work!  I think that's a sad thing.

I'm glad to hear that you settled in well there, Aaron. New jobs can be a bit scary for many people.

Must be nice looking out from such a high vantage point as well. This is a complete shot in the dark, but i bet the mony is nice as well...

So good to hear you have a steady income at the mo doing something you are happy to do with great perks ; views, food, gym. It's been a long time, we must catch up soon .

Sounds good. I'm glad that you feel settled there. Lovely to have a new blog to look at too.
I don't agree about living near ones work makes life all about work at all. Just means life isn't all about travelling to work I would think. More time, therefore, to enjoy oneself.

Hi Liz! Sorry! I specifically meant Canary Wharf re the bit about living close to work. I totally agree that living close to work can have major benefits especially when you live somewhere as beautiful as "up North".

Judging by the size of that building I am wondering whether your induction tour of it has actually FINISHED yet?

Yippee for your job....and Yippee for your blog too!
